Vuong’s prose is effortless as he shifts between his varying realities of dealing with a mother with PTSD and a schizophrenic grandmother—illnesses brought on from their experiences with the war from their homelands. Vuong’s recount is so smooth and familiar as I find myself recalling similar moments of what it’s like to becoming asian-american.
