I don't normally do progression updates but this book has me so enthralled that I felt it needed to be acknowledged.

It hurts me to admit how dull this actually is.

I have yet to abandon a book before it's last page this year but 'The Pact' might take the prize. Am I supposed to dislike everyone in these pages?

The fact that Maupin killed my favorite character off page after neglecting and often simply forgetting about her for four books yet I still want to keep at this series like a rabid dog to a fleshy limb says a lot about his writing. I'm angry at you Armistead. She deserved a better send off.

I'm not a weepy person. In my life I've cried at three books. 1.The end of Katherine Dunns 'Geek Love', 2. The end of Gaimans 'Sandman' series and just today, Armistead Maupin broke me down at what was originally the end of his 'Tales of The City' epic. Knowing that twenty years after this book was published he wrote three more is comforting but an implausibly sympathetic Mary Ann bidding adieu to Mouse. Too much.

I love these books. This series has made it's way into my heart faster and with more resonance than any book, film or TV series in recent memory. That being said it it very frustrating that I am forced to read about the increasingly intolerable actions of Mary Ann Singleton while Mona and Anna seem to have taken a back seat or just been completely forgotten. Boo. Hiss.

Mr. Maupin, why are you bound and determined to make me hate characters I previously loved and love characters I previously hated? I really adore this volume but the next time I visit San Francisco I'd like to hang out with Mona awhile longer. Please.
