So far I do feel this novel is representative of the "no future" mindset that many of us teens had growing up in the suburbs of Montreal. Everything was so bleak and stripped of anything resembling culture. It wasn't until I moved downtown at 17 that I feel my life really began. The stifling conformity of the West Island finally behind me, a whole new world opened up and I jumped right in.

What a unique experience: reading a book where you can recognize all the references. I was a teen on the West Island of Montreal in the 80s before moving downtown; I went to see many of the bands mentioned; eventually playing in a band myself, and also becoming friends with some of the folks mentioned. The video playlist on YouTube that accompanies the book definitely took me down memory lane, that's for sure.

Nothing much happens in this book, but curiously, it works. Great summer read.

I think I would've liked this book better as a physical copy instead of the audio book. She talks really fast like someone who hates public speaking and is just racing through a public speaking assignment to get it over with as soon as possible. Other than that, it's an interesting book.
