I just can’t with this book. A friend read it and enjoyed it but I can’t get into it. This is a beach read. I don’t do beach reads; mostly because I rarely find myself in a situation with nothing to do in a noisy atmosphere where a light read is best. I don’t like the characters. I don’t like the premise. I don’t like the writing. Reads like a middle grade book. This one is going back to the library.

I enjoyed this book but found it to be too fantastical. I found so many things hard to believe. Perhaps someone could have such incredibly good luck. Perhaps one might find her horse in a stream without an Indian in sight after everything is destroyed. Perhaps one might getaway from the armed French and Indian who would readily give up pursuit of a lone young woman because they were drunk - or she was too fast (it wa

I could not finish this book. It wasn’t awful - it just wasn’t keeping my interest. I didn’t connect with any character and I could care less what was going to happen next. I may finish it in the future but my TBR is too long and my days too full got me to drudge through this one!

Mary is reading The Great Believers
I read this book for my local book club. I didn’t really care for it and was glad it was over. I slogged through it. It felt disjointed. I didn’t like all the talk about the art. I wanted to know more about what went wrong between Fiona and her daughter. I was angry about the unprotected sex after a negative test result because the character made an assumption about another character. Is it ignorance or arrogance tha

Loved this book. It’s based on the premise that memories/traumas carry forward to future generations. I’m not sure about this but I found it interesting given that I firmly believe that an infant’s psychology can be impact by the emotional state of its pregnant mother (eg, an anxious pregnant woman results in a child who suffers from anxiety). I loved that the futures of all were impacted by a descendant.

Did not finish. I read to page 90 & stopped. This book reads like a middle grade novel. There is nothing wrong with middle grade novels, I used to read them with my children so we could discuss them, but it’s not marketed at middle grade and middle grade is not what I want to read…not with the TBR list I have! However, I will credit this book with introducing me to a little known part of history that I will research

Disappointing. Recently read some really bad novels; I was looking forward to this one. I loved his first two novels. This one reads like he needed to meet a deadline for his publisher. Every 10 pages can be reduced to one page of story. It’s another stream of consciousness novel - like you’re the stuck inside someone else’s noisy brain. I want to know what happens but I have a life. So I’ll wait for the movie.

Only slightly better than the first book in the series. I am done with this series and this arbor. I was really into this book until about 1/3 of the way through. After the first tragedy it was all downhill. The book showed promise; I was really into the characters, then you could tell the author ran out of steam. She painstakingly completed everyone story - killing everyone off (or making them disappear) one by one.

Sadly, there really are people like this. I’m no longer on SM but before I left I had purged my account of exactly these kinds of people. Scary to think.
