The first time a feminist text has felt so clear, purposeful, and immediate to me.

More sloppy arguments, presenting research and then jumping to a conclusion that doesn't at all seem supported by the research. Simplistic thinking about ecology and conservation, contradicts himself all the time or seems wildly unrealistic - I still have no idea what he thinks and ideal, balanced ecosystem would look like in Germany - a return to his (fantasy) dark, huge deciduous forests with no plains/grassland?

A lot of dodgy science in there. I think he knows his stuff when it comes to trees and forest species, but when he ventures outside of that, speculating about ancient (post ice age) ecosystems or meteorology... I don't trust his explanations or theories. The didactic tone is also starting to grate.

I am so impressed by the clarity of thought and speech in this already.

Why didn't her editor tell her to cut down on the "pop this in the oven, pop that in a freezer bag, pop it in the toaster". A maximum of five pops per chapter should be MORE than enough. British people -_-

Really did not care for the chapter on Rewilding the river until she talks about modern-day river management for flood control in the Lake District and the Dales

Very enjoyable and informative so far. The discussion of what Europe looked like after the last Ice Age was fascinating and I'll be picking up the books discussing this in more detail. I appreciated the space given to proponents of the 'closed canopy' view without making their arguments sound ridiculous, and then rebutting them with convincing evidence (for someone who doesn't know anything about the topic, anyway).
