lord children this took a TURN

Giving up on this 50% of the way through for a few reasons:
1. I'm not as riveted as I wanted to be. I loved Brom's work in Slewfoot SO MUCH so I'm very disappointed to not be as into this one. I'm in a reading slump and I need something more gripping right now.
2. I bought this on Chirp and it keeps losing my place in the book. If I try to read it again, I'll go a different route.

i was prepared for the outdated race issues but i was definitely not prepared for the constant sexualization of the bodies of 6-year-olds ???

i’m having a hard time reading this as quickly as i want because it’s so gross that i have to walk away from it over and over. that sounds like a negative thing but it’s not lol. it’s really well-written and that’s so hard to find in the horror genre. i’m struggling with a certain theme and shouldn’t have just read the turtle chapter before bed but here we are.

trying to withhold judgment until this wraps up but uhhhhh

i genuinely didn’t mean to time my reading of this with the premier of its tv show adaptation but it’s a fun and quick read so far!

OKAY ITS STARTING TO GROW ON ME

i might jump ship on this soon if it doesn’t become less insufferable. so far every page is “GEN Z BAD INSTAGRAM BAD THIS GENERATION BAD ONLY OLDER GENERATION GOOD” with not much else in the way of message and substance. every character except for the two (((cops))) and one bank robber we’re following are looney toons characters that don’t talk or act like anyone that has ever existed. ugh.

this story could be told much more quickly and that’s frustrating but aside from that i’m enjoying it quite a bit. i put off reading this one because i knew it would be rough and i was RIGHT

i wish i had more hours in the day to read this. i love it so much. so achingly familiar and heartbreaking.

I am genuinely loving this book but oh my god I need to finish it
