Cute! Some well spent pleasurable times in the last chapters.
Let's now see if we're gonna get something in terms of plot development.

He traced a line down her arm. 
“What think you if we quit this place and travel home?  I’m eager to show you what I call sanctuary.”
Ildiko captured his hand and kissed his knuckles.

I love all that arms touching and kissing! It's a slow burn.

The queen fired her first volley just as the servants set down bowls of soup. 
“You humans are very pale,” she said in Common. “Only our diseased sport that shade.”
.....
“You’re right, your Majesty; we are quite pale by comparison. The Kai are very gray. Only our dead are that color.”

Ildiko is the best!

“At least tell me it tastes like chicken.”

Eek! Ewww! That pie!!! I have no words. 'Disgusting' is just too light a word for the situation. I do wonder what real cuisine has inspired this though?! :)

“What is he saying?”
A different voice, this time speaking in the Common tongue with a Gauri’s lyrical accent. The prince’s ugly wife with the frightening eyes.
Brishen shook his head. “Lovely inside,” he argued with himself. “Laughs easily.”
The way Kai see the human eyes is ...well... kinda enlightening and so very amusing.
Also, the mortem fever is quite the experience!
Great book so far!

I'm travelling for the next 2 days so I won't be around for updating this but I need something to listen to while on the train and this fits perfectly I think.

The wererat smiled. “It had wings.”
The street turned completely silent.

:) I'm so glad this episode is over. It was emotional indeed. Both because its actual content + personal reasons. Phew ... *relieve sigh*

The phone clicked once, twice, and screaming punched my ear, the raw high-pitched howl of human terror. “Help! Help me!”
A heavy crash drowned out the voice and a familiar young voice shrieked. “He’s coming!”

This 'he' must be the 'he' from Ch.1 who was waiting for the ghouls, I guess. Argh, I so don't want to stop reading but I really have to got to bed!

Very mild spoiler ahead.

“Hi, Christopher.” I made my voice as gentle as I could. “How did you get here?”
“I walked.” Walked. The Keep was almost two hours away by vehicle. How in the world did he even find us?

So happy to see Christopher! And this definitely smells more like flying, not walking!

“It’s a wolf griffin,” I murmured. “Lion griffins come from Crete and Greece. This guy is from North Africa. They are mentioned in Berber folklore. Something about a giant bird and a wolf mating.”

Lol! I need to see this. Oh, wait! Not sure I actually want to see this! :)

These two make an entertaining couple. I'm glad they have each other for support and I love spending time with them. As a whole, Part III is quite good so far.

The old gods are female?”
“One is. The other two are men, one a great bearded fellow, the other younger and handsome of face. I didn’t touch either of them, for the visions they impart are only for the bravest eyes. They say the Shield touched all three though, the only man ever to do so.”
Ha, very intriguing! And strangely but it makes me feel uncomfortable in some way. At least my gut tells me so.

“They knew many things, these Great Boat People, the working of metal and the reckoning of the stars, even the course of the future.”

The revelation at the end of Part II is the most exciting happening in the book for me so far. No doubt in a chapter from Vaelin's POV. I'm happy enough with all the other POVs but mostly drawn to Velin's.
Oh goodie, Part III starts with a Vaelin chapter! *happy dance*

“Take one, can still use,” he went on, miming the amputation of his thumb and making a fist. “But weaker now.”
“If we find other parts of it,” Vaelin said, “can you do the same to them?”
Wise Bear nodded. “If we find.”

Hm, Wise Bear is the shit! This 'meeting' was quite the interesting one.

“You are far from home, my friend.”
Lekran jerked, his chains snapping tight. “Then … get this fucking metal off me … so I can go back there. For time on this earth is short, and I have many men to kill.”

This one sure gets his priorities straight! This is gonna be fun I think. :)

What a fine description!

I love those two when they interact. Since the very beginning of book #1. It's a pity their interactions are kinda rarity.
