Most days when I look back at my childhood, it feels like first I became a reader; then I became a person.

I’m not done with this yet, but just need to come gush over Bahni Turpin. I’ve only ever heard her read one character, in The Final Revival of Opal and Nev, but holy shit. What she’s doing with each of these characters - all the women in book club, all the husbands, the kids, James Harris - is truly incredible.

"I'm burning with clarity, and I want of womankind to burn with me so we can incinerate the patriarchy just by existing. I don't want women to blur the edges of their bad days or use wine to talk themselves down from causing righteous trouble."

"Booze is the oil in our motors, the thing that keeps us purring when we should be making other kinds of noise."

Yeah, I'm done. I'm interested in the story and will see the movie, but I couldn't spend another 200 pages with these people.
