K.A. Wiggins is on page 100 of 403 of Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine, #1)
Quite possibly my favourite detail so far: the necromancer has a virtual assistant! Because outsourcing chores is a thing even in paranormal novels! It's those little worldbuilding details, lol.

K.A. Wiggins is on page 60 of 304 of An Enchantment of Ravens
I'm less than 1/3 of the way through and I already know I want to read everything by this author, ever. Best faerie writing I've read since Holly Black & Melissa Marr. It feels lush, fresh and involving. Please tell me there's more coming!

This is way better than I expected! Well-written YA dystopian thriller w/ (mild spoiler?) a subterranean escape a la Journey to the Center of the Earth midway through.
Pushing my limits on the dark and edgy part of dystopian, with (off-camera) teen sex, rape and sexual assault handled... about as tastefully as these things can be, but still... YA MA, don't hand to a 12yo...
Great for fans of gritty, dark dystopian.

Kind of a slow read with all the world-building though, but definitely not as bad as some were making it out to be! So far, not seeing issues with racism, but rather an admirably nuanced approach to culture, identity and power.

I dunno guys, I'm having a hard time with this one. It's a bit slow and small-town-y in a way that doesn't seem to appeal to me (see also: Shiver series by Maggie Steifvater), but more significantly, while I can usually get on board with a whole lot of crazy magical, supernatural and paranormal goings-on, I'm just super uncomfortable with the magic Gratton portrays. Yeah, it's titled 'Blood Magic', but ick, y'all.

Loving this and beyond impressed at how Kendare is managing to keep tension high and forward momentum strong while constantly switching (albeit third-person) viewpoints and locations. Killer writing!

Rich and deep writing but much like the Raven Cycle, not a fast read. There's a sense or feeling of distance, but the characterization is complex and relatable at the same time. Very well realized world and deft worldbuilding.

K.A. Wiggins is starting Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1)
Maybe it's 'cause I'm a cat person, but I just couldn't get into this. Whether it was werewolves or Minnesota or a school story without much going on, despite how impressed I was with the Raven Cycle, I just can't be bothered. Picked up Sinner, though, which is a sort of stand-alone continuation of the series, and that's very well written, so whatever... DNF

A little hard to get into, aimed at middle readers and so the text, characters and theme are a little awkward and oversimplified, but overall a pretty good and quite a fast read.

SUCH an amazing book - as stand-alone pieces of fiction, I don't necessary love all three of the novellas, but there's such invaluable insight into how the authors process ideas, craft a story etc. Brenna Yovanoff, every time she writes about her process and ideas and writing approach, I'm blown away by how it feels like she's in my head. It's like, soulmate-but-you-don't-know-me, lol. Which is creepy. But wow.
