Jim Peplinski is starting The Rising Sun: The Decline & Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-45
Bob Stellick recommended.
First few chapters …. Nuances of different cultures unfolding events far different than what the actors realize could happen is mind boggling.

And how little I know about other ventures and history in general.

Jim Peplinski is starting American Midnight: The Great War, a Violent Peace, and Democracy’s Forgotten Crisis
Assuming recitations are factual, remarkable how facts older than average age of population tend to be diluted substantially. i.e. harassment and incarceration of those against ww1

Jim Peplinski is finished with Dominion: The Railway and the Rise of Canada
Unsurprisingly building the railroad was full of hardship, deceit, greed, incompetence and government bureaucratic self service.

Jim Peplinski is starting How the World Really Works: A Scientist's Guide to Our Past, Present and Future
Smil is always useful and now understandable😉 Even reading the introduction is useful. It’s a complicated world and most of us have strong opinions without understanding any of it.

Jim Peplinski is starting The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer
imo this is an excellent history of a common brutal complicated disease. The essence i took from this book is as much well intentioned research and impressively smart people there are trying to solve this disease, in many cases the decision is up to you on what approach to take to solve.
