I love The Goldfinch so far. I’m reading it for Book Club. There’s a long waiting list at the library so I just paid the eight bucks and downloaded it. It has history, art, mystery, vivid showing details, New York, realistic grief and how other people don’t get it, antiques, the generation gap--all things that speak to me.

Actually 188 of 232. It was a little slow at first as I got to know the characters, and I was reading it 15 minutes at a time during SSR at school. But now, there is an economic crisis, the characters are losing their feelings of security and complacency, and they are turning against one another! It's the economic downturn of the 1870s. Deja vu!

I'm learning a lot from this biography to share with my students this week and it is an engaging read! The author speculates about the reason Emily secluded herself in later years.

Wow! Deja vu.

Whoa! I had to suspend disbelief a bit too much, even for me. The other two books I read by this author were much more realistic. I'm turning to nonfiction, then maybe I'll come back.
