A weird phenomenon is happening where I thought Mayci was fine on SLOMW but while reading this book I’m seriously starting to dislike her.

I can’t tell if I’m more angry that this book exists or more angry that I keep reading it.

Lock her up officer, she used my most disliked phrase for an author to use (2x now) “…for lack of a better phrase”

This was written for a very niche audience, of which, I am 100% apart of.

Why are we fighting over a boy… I mean Come on. Overplayed. If I wasn’t reading this for book club I’d DNF.

I have another gripe with this. I hate when authors use the phrase “for lack of a better word” … just use a better word. Oh my god.

More of a love story with Scotland than with the main character- but surprisingly, not mad at it.

I have a conspiracy theory that Emily Henry is actually 2 different people & they switch writing each year. Half of her books are great 4+ stars & the others are, Blah. I swear it’s two different people actually writing, otherwise explain why one book I’ll love & the immediate next book is just not it & then the cycle continues as new books come out. *puts on tin foil hat*

Did I write this book? Am I the main character? There are The Chicks country song references & the main characters favorite food is fried okra. I would like compensation for stealing my personality lol

Hot take, but when authors use the line “I can’t explain it, it just feels right” I feel like they are just being lazy. If the characters worked together you wouldn’t have to explain it - or attempt to. Also another thing about this book that has been bugging me — the cover art is ugly. The faces of the characters look scary.

Chapter 28 was literally a roller coaster. You start off with the usual sadness & then the highest of highs & then the author smacks you in the face again. I’m recovering from the whiplash. I’m nearing the end of the book & I have a feeling it’s not going to be a happy ending.

Author references Jim Croce’s Time in a bottle so I looked the song up to get the whole vibe while reading. The whole vibe is sadness. 🥺😢

Honestly he lost me a long time ago, but arguing that Jesus and christianity invited meditation is wack & totally incorrect.
