I'm trying to give this a fair chance since I fell in love with Schwab's Vicious novels. However, not only have I gone through 70 pages feeling lost and without direction as to where the story is going, but the writing seems a bit too.... "angsty teenager trying to sound sophisticated" for me. It pains me to say that because I've wanted to branch out to other novels by the author, but I'm really close to DNFing this.

Just finished chapter 7. This chapter along with chapter 5 were amazing. Ch 5 introduced us properly to Allomancy and the mastery of a Mistborn over it - Ch 7 explained to us (and Vin!) in detail about how Allomancy works. Everything is explained in such a logical and simply way that you catch on very fast. So far I'm enjoying very much this world and it's unique magic system.

Putting on hold for now. Not quite sure if I will continue on with the series. I don't think I am in the right headspace to read this story now, and from what I am reading in the reviews it looks like what I disliked from the previous book only continues to get worse. I'll see if I'll pick it up sometime in the future.

I just finished the chapter Tete-a-tete. What a lovely chapter, lots of tension between Celia and Marco. I really want to see if this budding romance will last. I have a suspicion that it won't.

It's strange, I haven't read a book like this in a long, long while. It is definitely what I would classify as an atmospheric novel, focused more so on the feelings and sensations rather than the characters themselves. It is also quite slow as well, but there's definitely a hint of mystery behind the happenings of the Circus that is more than just what we are told.

Wow, this took a total 180 on what I thought it would be. Thought it would be another fantasy heist novel, think Six of Crows or Theft of Swords. Nope, instead, everything goes smoothly, and Sancia is left with a talking key. Was not expecting that.

I can't help but think how stupid everyone involved is. I mean, I was willing to overlook the boys being stupid, but Angie as well? Why are people so willing to kill just willy-nilly?

I just finished a certain chapter and all I can say is that I am pissed off at every single male (except for Gifford) at this point. Nyphron is an insufferable arrogant ass, and Raithe is refusing to do absolutely anything of importance. Neither of these males deserve Persephone and I hope there's some twist where she doesn't end up with either of them. Meanwhile, the women are killing it as usual. Moya is badass.

Was just introduced to a boy named Tesh? Who I'm assuming will establish the Teshlor knights at some point? Is he Hadrian's ancestor??

Just finished chapter 26 last night. Yes, the "I can help you" scene happened, and I am both ecstatic and heartbroken over it. So far, I have to say that in terms of plot, I enjoyed the first book better overall, but there are some scenes in this book that are better than anything in SoC.

I am about halfway through the book now. I have decided I will give it another 5 chapters. If I do not see any improvement or clear indication as to where this book is going, I am going to sadly DNF it. It has been a struggle to get through to where I am now, and I need a clear reason to continue. My time is just too valuable to read a book that I am not understanding.

I feel like I can continue to read this for the language alone, and how pleasant it is to read it. But it's like sitting in a garden and just sitting there... it's very pleasant to absorb all the sensations around you, but in the end you're not doing much. That's what it's like with this book. Pleasant thus far, but I have no clue where it's going. I'm not quite sure what is happening half the time.

Slowly but surely. The premise seems interesting, if a bit simplistic at first (Big Bad Empire vs The Resistance). However, I just can't feel the characters. I feel like I know nothing about the personalities of Laia or Elias. It's literally like watching puppets - they're doing what they're supposed to but there's no soul behind it, no personality to shape their decisions. I'll keep reading warily at this point.

I don't know where to start with my thoughts. Firstly, I had to resign myself that the first book is near irrelevant and probably didn't need to happen in context of this one. Secondly, while I started to enjoy it a bit more during the middle, the book honestly turned into smut, and not the sexy kind. And the number of references to Feyre's boobs had me rethinking whether this novel was written by a man.

I've gone through the first part feeling intrigued, excited, but also incredibly heartbroken and entirely manipulated. Firstly, there is not a character more mistreated than Tamlin, but Lucien is close behind. Everything that was good about them vanished or subverted to the point that it's comical. Secondly, since when did Rhys turn into the knight in shining armor? Where is the morally grey Fae we were promised?

I find myself having to pause every so often just to absorb it all, especially now that I've gone into the chapters detailing the Dylan's psychology and his relationship with Eric. What was most surprising and heartbreaking was that there was physical evidence showing Dylan's ambivalence towards the shooting up to the event itself. It's just such a tragedy all around, and the worst part is that this isn't fiction.

Very eloquently written, and I can hardly put it down. It's a heartbreaking memoir to read so far.
