I'm not in the mood or mindset to read this right now, but I do want to someday finish this classic.

ugh...I forgot how tedious the language of the 1800's Europe is compared today's literature. I'm struggling, but I want to finish this classic.

Half of this book is a story called The Ship From Outside... as far as space operas go, it was just ok. The action starts in chapter 19 and the story ends on a note that is supposed to be thought provoking in chapter 22. I didn't really feel anything for any of the characters or the so called plot.

So far I'm bored to tears reading all the bickering of this couple. When does this story become a story worth reading? 🤔

I should have planned to read this in one sitting...there are so many characters and plot lines I keep having to go back. The writing is very descriptive.

Allan is still a hoot, but this story is not as much fun as the first one...so far. I'm interested in seeing where this asparagus farm scam leads though...

Reading this is like Julia has taken me by the hand and said "let's explore together!"

I'm still wondering where this story is going....it seems kinda all over the place and now there's a new letter-writing character where there's no reference to or knowledge of at all.

I can't believe I've never read this. As with any dystopian story I am wondering what is wrong with these people...looking forward to the rest of the story.

I didn't read the first book in this series but am able to follow the story just fine. The way it's written kinda reminds me of Roger Rabbit or Stranger Than Fiction. Am enjoying it so far...and makes me want to read the first book as well as Jane Eyre!

This seems like a book that is written for non-muslim people because there is a lot of explaining of customs and words. I feel a muslim person would find this story a little pedantic; I however am enjoying learning about all the customs from different countries that practice Islam and how the two main characters in the book relate to a new way of life in America.

I am enjoying this so far. I like how it is very casual conversational. I like the main character's sense of humor.

So I'm only 2 chapters in and each chapter has started out in a way that makes me wonder what the hell she's going on about but by the end it all comes together, then the next chapter starts the same way. I'm ok with this. What I'm not ok with is the fact that the author is such a picky eater its a wonder she decided to take on this task!

Kind of chic lit sort of predictable murder mystery...its just ok so far.

Definitely ranks high on my "weird stuff-o-meter" but I like the characters and the pace so far and how the story is being told. Wouldn't expect anything less from the writer of "Welcome to Night Vale" which I love.

I really liked the summary of this book....so far this is just meh for me. It doesn't bother me the writing is choppy, but it seems like instead of drawing us a picture and letting us make our own conclusions the author instead is just telling us what to think.

I'm only a few chapters in and I am liking it already. I have questions that need answered and can't wait to find em: is there really a ghost or is she a split personality, is it in her head or...? Is the detective in on something or...? How does this work out!

I want to be excited about this adventure but as with most Victorian age stories it is more wordy than I think it needs to be and these extra words are impeding my progress.

I like the idea of magic added to a historical fiction, but this story so far is not hooking me but I do want to finish it.

The story should have started with chapter 3, its finally getting interesting.

The idea is interesting but the story isn't grabbing me.

So far this is a book where I can tell each of the characters is going to represent someone you know or yourself...I wonder which one I might identify with?

Just one happenstance after another. The humor is not for everyone but I think it's clever.

Chapter 4 so far is the best chapter...I feel I'm getting a real sense of Victor's self inflicted tribulations . Also, everything up to chapter 4 could have been summed up in one or two paragraphs. The writing is too flowery and detailed for me.
