Padri Veum is on page 245 of 566 of This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate
Klein is one of the most powerful voices in investigative journalism. In the same way that "The Shock Doctrine" is called essential for those who wish to understand post-war economics, "This Changes Everything" is going to be essential for anyone wishing to understand what the climate change fight really means.

Interesting insights into ancient living--the presence of prophets, rebellion, cultural bigotry, etc.

This book reminds me in ways of "Boys on the Rock" or "Call Me By Your Name". What that chiefly means is that the experience of being gay is rendered so honestly it's almost painful. The meaning of a gesture, a word, a knee leaning into a knee. I wish more straight people read books like these--it would help clear up a lot of confusion and misperceptions.

Vidal's writings on the politicization of sex, the use of marriage as a tool for economic exploitation, and the disenfranchisement of people of color make the essays in this book startlingly relevant for today.

Second time I'm reading this--for those interested in the practice of Chod, this book is both historically interesting, and makes the esoteric spiritual concepts and goals easily understood.

Padri Veum is finished with The Great Gatsby
I will always be perplexed by this book's reputation. Three people in the last day have said: I started "The Great Gatsby", but I couldn't finish it--I didn't like any of the people in it.

That says it all. I finished because I won't be outdone by so slim a volume--despite its complete lack of interest.

"I do say, old sport"--is about all that's happening. So far, there is nothing great about Gatsby (or Tom, Nick, Daisy or Jordan). It is a bit perplexing that I'm most of the way through this little book, and there is no sign of its "greatness". It really does make me wonder why anyone calls this a great American novel. What qualities make it so? The lack of plot? The lack of character development?

So far, I just don't care about any of the characters. Not one.

A little more melancholic than "Fraud" and "Don't Get Too Comfortable", but still very much David Rakoff. The greater current of subtle sadness allows his wit to highlight a more tender set of emotions, which is making for a gentle, contemplative reading experience.
