This was one of those “thank god I’m alive, it was worth it all along,” books. In all seriousness, read it. I’m not shocked by it winning the National Book Award, but I hope that the literary powers that be recognize the cultural artifacts that Charles Frazier has given us and commend him accordingly with the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Maybe love per se isn’t enough but it can certainly take you far.
