I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book with more trigger warnings, nor have I read anything more miserable in my life lol. I’m not saying I don’t want to finish… but I’ve guessed all the twists long before they got here so far… and whoever put this in the romantasy category is a maniac. This is like a dystopian gothic horror fantasy lol 😂

Absolutely loving this book so far

I’m really enjoying this magical fantasy /fairytale story so far

I’m finding the beginning of this book a bit jarring and clunky. A lot of words, places, people, and things we don’t know just immediately used with no context clues. Feels like I’m starting on season 2 of a popular tv show lol.

What is with people putting spoilers in their reviews? Mark it as a spoiler, dum dums. Some of us check the reviews before reading a book to see if it’s a good fit and I don’t want to find out a major plot point after reading a single sentence.

Unfortunately, the narrator of this audiobook has some of the characters speaking incredibly soft and blurring the ends of their words and other characters with an extreme shake in their voices… And it makes it impossible to hear in a car even on max volume. Even with the speed at 1 instead of my normal, 1.5 or 1.7 lol it’s just legitimately too hard to hear clearly. But I’m excited to read someday

So I started listening to this in audiobook because I absolutely love this author. But unfortunately, I’m going to have to pause this and put it into my TBR for reading a physical copy or Kindle version because this narrator is not good for me.

I’m 20% in and so far there is implied child sexual assault. And though this book has a cover which looks YA, and its main character is a teen ( I think) … it’s very dark and has a lot of triggers. Perhaps the story gets amazing but as of right now it’s just descriptions of awful people in an awful world.

Man. The stubborn woman who keeps making dumb choices trope is getting old.

So far it’s interesting, but we have been introduced to two cultures and about 10 characters from each culture. They’re also seems to be two sets of religious beliefs? And definitely a complicated political system. The story is definitely interesting, but going back and rereading names to figure out who people are is making it difficult to enjoy the story, and a bit slow going.

I’m reading this book with my 14 year old child who is into writing and drawing. He finished tonight and is losing his mind over it. Soooo guess I better catch up

Interesting world. It’s like a magic fantasy world living in a dystopian 1984 world
