A chapter and a half into this and my eyes are popping out of my head. This is gonna be good!

I started this at the bus stop waiting to go home from work. I didn't have high hopes because YA generally gives me hives, the people who recommended it to me have vastly different tastes in books than I do and the quick option into film made me suspicious that it was merely palatable rather than authentic.

But 20 pages in something happens that made me gasp out loud, drop the book and OMG this is good

You guys.

So far this is not that good.

It's actually kind of bad.

I feel a little sad right now.

"Marley was dead: to begin with."

Y'all. I am not in the mood.

But that's the good thing about traditions. You don't have to be in the mood for the season in order to usher it in despite yourself, I suppose.

So...

"Once upon a time--of all the good days in the year, on Christmas Eve--old Scrooge sat busy in his counting-house..." and once a day, for the next few days, I'll spend a little time sitting with him.

So far this is pretty mean and self-indulgent. I rarely discard book but I'll give this one 2 more chapters to see if the story redeems it at all...

I have seen the word 'pudenda' in this book more often than I have every heard it in the whole rest of my entire life. Ugh.

20 pages in and I feel the same way I did when I discovered Steinbeck in my early teens. Yes...

Time to mull some wine and settle down for my yearly reading of this...:-)

Did anyone else find this a really rough read, emotionally? I keep having to take breaks. It feels like I'm eavesdropping on other people's therapy sessions....

Three chapters in and I'm stunned by how intense this is(in a good way).

Nope, can't do it. Any Korean language learning book that doesn't bother to include text in the Korean alphabet makes my head hurt. I quit.

This book feels so much longer than I remember it being...

Rogene is making me read this. I'm not mad.

After a break to read some trashy memoirs, back to the smart stuff...

This is a deep, dense read so far.

This book iust made an unironic Twilight reference. Clearly I am not it's target audience. I quit!

I thought I'd never met a book I couldn't respect, but this one is vying for the title...
