While I know I'm meant to suspend reality in many ways when reading these books but somehow the deeply flawed characterization of Vermont bothers me. Yes, there is a lot of french Canadian influence there, but there's such a mismatch with placing the plot there. There are no large cities other than Burlington, the most open-minded and non-denominational community you could come across.
