I received this book in a GoodReads giveaway. So far it's interesting, but it's not at all a quick read.

I wasn't sure if I was really drawn in by the characters early on, but the tears have been flowing.

Actually more like 75%. This is an extraordinarily well referenced book and the last third is all the citations.

This is written in prose, but the rhythm of the text and the snapshots feels poetic.

Short story collections often suffer from wide variances in quality. While I've still got plenty of tales left to see that, Te-Ping Chen has a gift for the vignette.

The narrative is a bit disjointed, but I have guffawed a few times.

I should have listened the review that it was too much about surfing. Finally getting to scientists. Hopefully it stays that way.
