Informative and a little precious so far.

Portraits of the author's observations and interactions with a variety of birds in Maine. For all of the author's books thus far, it is surprising that neither author nor Houghton Mifflin didn't catch numerous errors which are surprising and distracting. The most recent being on page 113: "Since they start holes and then leave them, may hack out a nest cavity..." Come on.

I admit to never wrapping this up. I was greatly relieved by not reading the same annoying repetitive phrases as in the first. Someday I might finish it.

I put it down. But it is all too easy to do this and pick up where I left off.

This complicated, misdiagnosed man's story is being told with some flatness, and an unfinished thread here and there, but, the topic of the narration is what comes through so well.

I stumble over the "inner goddess" among other poor writing choices, yet I continue reading for 2 reasons. I am curious about the why-now popularity, and its carnal entertainment value.

I wasn't sure I would make it through the first 20 pages. The descriptions and the narrator's inner dialogue reek of outdated and overused phrases. A little further in and obvious plot and foreshadows have me agreeing to grab the T bar up the slope. Accepting the limitations, the story becomes a decent read. Why are Christian and Anastasia both wearing Converse brand shoes in the first heated scene?
