GeekLady is on page 10 of 864 of The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home
A personal look from Jessie Wise on why she chose to homeschool, and her nervousness in doing it in 1973. She pulled her kids out of institutional school due to a combination of lack of appropriate school support and academically precocious kids. There were no materials then, and the methods she used have been refined into the book I'm reading now.

"who could deny that his approach illustrates the constant temptation for Christians, indeed, for the Church: to seek victory without the Cross?"

Some of her examples here are poorly chosen. She would have done better to discuss a solemnity that occurs in Ordinary Time and save the discussion of the Solemnity of Saint Joseph for a more involved discussion on the complexities of the liturgical calendar.

Hmmph. The writing style is obnoxious, and I've caught an error in the book which doesn't fill me with tons of confidence.

Limiting myself to one page of notes and chapter summary is extremely difficult.

Read this in HS, but Himself has never read it. He has trouble getting into it. So we're starting our own little book club and we'll go through it together.

Today was interesting, and I know exactly which budget I need to create. A project budget. How much time I may spend, how many projects I should have going on at once, how many unfinished projects I have sitting around in various stages of completion that I got distracted from, what kinds of new projects I can allow myself to undertake. The actual value for me, and my family, of each project. Hmm.

Pg 812 - The Combination Cleaner/Baby-sitter "Having kept a house and cared for an infant full-time, I can vouch that I often was not able to have the house neat, the dishes washed, and the baby bathed by 6:00 or 7:00 P.M., even with a husband who shared the work. The difficulty in accomplishing this was material for many jokes among members of my parents generation."
