I am going to get whiplash trying to figure out if I like this or not. Literally the same paragraph can have some of the worst and some of the most poignant writing I've read.

So let me tell you. John Marrs is one of those authors (most of the authors I like because I'm trash and don't actually read full books) that I latched onto and put on my "favorites" list without having actually read a book from him. So I was looking forward to this....around 50 pages in I said "ehh I don't like this, I don't know if I want to continue" but I kept going. THIS IS FANTASTIC!!

Slow start thus far, and it has me very nervous. I haven't read any of John Marrs` books but have skimmed them and I feel like they typical start better than this.

Ended up having to return this to the library before I could finish it, but I already put my name on the reserve list again for it. Definitely going to finish ASAP

Either I don’t know how tense works or this movie just changed from past tense to present tense while describing the same night.

Also, I like the story, but it takes detours in descriptions and makes observational mistakes that aren’t reflective and would only be made if the main character is telling this story to a person and in conversation. Even if we’re supposed to be getting told this, it doesn’t work.

After being in a slump and even when I feel like reading not being able to bring myself to do so I’m finally starting to come out of it (he says hopefully). Thus far, I like this book, but it’s spending a lot of time reciting the plot of the famous slasher movies (Halloween, Scream, Friday The 13th mostly) with names switched out and calling it world building.

I’ve actually been trying to read this for around a week. The premise is super interesting, the writing is good. Everytime I do sit down to read I have a lot of fun, but I’m having a hard time focusing on all reading/basically everything right now. Wish me luck and We’ll see how this all turns out.

Arthur is still not the best, but as we near the end I’m really enjoying the story.

Arthur has become infuriating. Like, he’s not entirely wrong in the way he’s feeling, but he’s also being irrational and not allowing any explanations so it’s infuriating reading about his reactions to things.

Both main characters continue to feel a little too alike so that the switches between their perspectives is a bit difficult to keep straight. And when they are clearly different Arthur’s character flaws are VERY obvious but never (thus far) called out or acknowledged by other characters, but ultimately I’m still really enjoying the book.

Maybe this isn't the best book to make my first ever Manga? I don't hate it, but between the general "shock" of having to adjust to reading "backwards" and the content being more "serious" and "real" it's not great.

I’m trying very hard not to get ahead of myself, and to an extent it’s literally the point of it, but the chemistry of Ben and Arthur seems to have nosedived since they got in touch with one another. The overall charm has diminished too.

So I refuse to mark single issue comics as read, I always wait until I've read (the equivalent of) a volume. But So far, this comic is wild. It gets a tad long in the tooth, but there is a lot of lore and world building it had to do in the first issue. Looking forward to the next issue.

Seriously hoping Samantha sticks around for the entirety of the book (series) and/or gets some sort of spin-off.

My only real gripe with the book so far is that both Arthur and Ben feel a lot alike so sometimes I forget which one the chapter is about.

We stan supportive and open parents like Ben’s! Arthur’s try to be but have obvious problems of their own that gets in the way, but I’m really loving Ben’s parents.

My God! Chip Zdarsky is a genius and I love everything about this so far.

I’m only 11 pages in, so it’s not really fair, but I can already tell I’m going to enjoy this WAY more than any of the other books I’ve read recently.

I just can’t do it. I don’t like this book and can’t bring myself to keep reading.

Unless I am misunderstanding the book and/or how uni in the UK works, they were lining up waiting to be directed to the "college" that they were assigned to. The main character's best friend made acquaintances with another student and despite the best friend going to a different college the acquaintance just happened to be the main characters new roommate? When "rarely do you have roommates". Just too convenient.

I feel like I’m always so negative in my progress updates, but I was really expecting this to be a “quick” and light read, it took me longer to read the first 31 pages than to read 100 pages in Eliza and Her Monsters.
