I've been trying to read this for years and actually made some good progress a few months ago, only to completely forget about it until now. I was intrigued because of a stranger's rec years ago, but it's just not doing it for me, and I think I've finally realized why: no one feels like a real person. It could have been a cute little short story, but there is no warmth, no depth, it just seems to rest on quirk alone.

Emma R is starting How to Have a Life: An Ancient Guide to Using Our Time Wisely (Ancient Wisdom for Modern Readers)
Got this on a whim from the library, kinda forcing myself to finish it. There have been a handful of decent lines but for the most part it's just garbage. Half the annotations are comments that Seneca is just making something up.

Can't read too much of this at one time. Terribly fascinating, but sad and frightening in equal measure.

I am so ANGRY at how good this book is, and that I have spent my whole life only ever hearing that it was funny. Even the cover is littered with praise for how "comical" and "mad" it is, but not a goddamn one of them is talking about how brilliant it is. This is something that (if it maintains its quality through to the end) EVERYONE should be reading right now.
