The beginning is so sensationally gothic I was propelled, at full speed, through the first half. Now, after Eve-ahem Matilda- seduces him, he in turn is about to seduce Antonia and I’m suddenly stuck. Deliberating whether I can bear to finish it when five other books are birding my bedside table...
