Hm, not feeling it yet. The first-person voice, along with the slangy wise guy characterization, reminds me of Shrek, or some other shoddy DreamWorks movie that confuses pop culture snark for wit.

I'm loving this - "A novel of high fantasy and low stakes", indeed. The main character, Viv, is delightful; and the central conceit ("An orc's life was strength and violence and a sudden sharp end - but she'd be damned if she'd let hers finish that way.") feels fresh and heartwarming.
