I found a first edition copy of this at a local used book store for $4, so naturally I had to have it. And I’m clearly on a “horror movies that are also books” kick this year so it lines up perfectly.

There aren't any surprises here for me, I've seen the movie tons of times. But the writing is actually really good which took me by surprise. Too bad that the sequel is apparently awful.

I don’t understand the rave reviews this book gets. It’s not that it’s *bad*, but imo not at all worthy of the almost 4.6 it has on here currently. This kind of book usually isn’t my preference but I picked it up based off the hype around it. Rookie move I guess.

No, I'm not dead (woo hoo!). We moved out of state and have been incredibly busy. Things are finally slowing down and I'm back to reading again. Looking forward to catching up and seeing what you all have been reading!

This one was threatening to put me in a reading slump and I normally love Vonnegut. Thankfully, it's much better now.

Pointless update: Every time I open Libby to read this, Mastodon's song "Sleeping Giant" gets stuck in my head.

Loving this so far but I'm finding 1 of the 3 character POVs to be pretty boring. It throws the vibe and pacing off every time. Hoping that gets better.

This is the first time in forever that a book has really gotten under my skin. I just had to set it down so I could process. Lots of unsettling and IMO borderline disturbing descriptions of abuse/neglect. If you’re sensitive to these topics, steer clear. Otherwise, if you pick this up, buckle up because you’re in for quite the ride (especially mothers).

Loving this so far. Worth the wait and hype

I came very close to DNFing this the other day, but with it being the least scary "horror" book I've encountered, at this point I just have to see how this ends. So against my better judgment, I'm sticking with it.
