This book is so sick 😂

It's such a strange feeling to enjoy someone's writing so much while simultaneously finding so little of it interesting.

Just got to a part that said something to the effect* of: criticism was the only kind of reaction he trusted (because it's never given disingenuously). Going to be thinking about that one for a while. I know a person or two that seems to think this way LOL.

This book has officially jumped the shark. I’ve realized it isn’t a book about 15-year-olds written by a 25-year-old employing hindsight and insight. It’s a 25-year-old writing the book he wished he could have written at 15. A novel as an excuse to make references to everything he loved in 2010. It’s the prep school version of Ready Player One.

Enjoying my time with Morante thus far (even if it’s a bit too aimless for my tastes, to this point).

Back on Goodreads for the first time in 3+ years!

This novella is delightful.

This is such a strange, mesmerizing book. I’m not even sure if it’s good but it’s also one of the more fascinating reading experiences I’ve ever had.

Getting back into my "Top 125 Novels of All Time" project.

Most of my Goodreads friends (who've read this) gave it 3 stars. At this point, I'm not sure why. Absolutely loving it.

I guess I'm feeling a bit stressed because I'm craving some childhood nostalgia. Giving this a whirl for the first time in a long time ... and I'm loving it so hard.

This is going well! I'm always a bit worried when I hit the middle section of a book (because that's where it can start to dip down) but so far so good. Honestly ... liking this better than Station Eleven.

I always feel that sci-fi makes me a better reader. It forces me to slow down and concern myself less with plot. With smart, heavy world-building sci-fi like A Memory Called Empire, my brain is engaged in a completely different way. Even when I don't *love* the book, I can still enjoy the experience.

Feeling optimistic.

I'm using Goodreads again for the first time in a few years. Let's see how this goes LOL

This ridiculously gorgeous anniversary edition finally convinced me to read Dune for the first time. Intrigued so far, in spite of all the things I don't (yet) understand!

So little has happened so far, it's strange. It has barely scratched the surface of the MURDER TRIAL the book is based on. I'm genuinely confused as to how Atwood took a premise with a female teenage murderer, a physiologist interviewing her, and prison in the 1840's and it's so oddly boring. So far. There's still a lot of book left. Crossing my fingers! I have faith. I think.

This is already one of the most fun/interesting books I've read in a long time

I'm starting a read-through of Kay's entire catalogue (no set end date), and this was his first book. It's already fascinating to see how far he's come from this first effort: it's pretty solid, the imagination is there for sure, but his ability to provide the right info at the right times isn't as strong here just yet. But I love Kay, so it's still fun.
