You ever fall off a cliff into a world?

I fell into this one. So excited to keep going.

I am thoroughly enjoying the magic system and gritty military vibes in this book.

Most of the time when I hear a book will be adapted to a TV show or a movie, I hate it, but this would make a great fantasy/pseudo England TV show.

Uhhhh my copy is missing a line at the top of the page. Hahaha oops?

Erdrich is one of the few non-fantasy authors I can just sink right into. She makes the ordinary magical somehow.

Reading a familiar book on kindle with dark mode, a large font, and low brightness is how you do migraine. So soothing to spend time with Rohan, Sioned, Chay, Tobin, Maarken, Walvis and everyone. Goddess Blessing, Sunrunner.

Damn, sometimes a second person POV hits so hard. This is perfect.

I am re-listening to this and omg I forgot how fun Adventures in Kholinar is with Shallan and Veil.

How did I miss this when it came out‽ This is right up my alley. Drops you right into the uncanny valley.

Tchaikovsky can take a hostile alien world and teach me things about humans that make me both soar and fall.

This author always has to tear me apart and sew me up in new and exciting configurations and this is why I read!

This book is making me send super-extra text messages.

For example:

“I love you and also I am reading my wolf book and it makes me want to go find you and make sure you are ok and perfect and I love you and I want to face press you.”

Also: this villain had better have a good, long, painful death cause WHAT THE FUCK.

Every other page! The THICK PLOTTENS! What have you done to Robbie‽ WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ROBBIE?

My warning is this: do not start this series unless you are prepared to make it your personality.

Well, I started this a couple of hours ago, it’s 2am and I have to get up in 4 hours and I just caught myself reading another page.

So. Yeah.

I like it.

So, I’ve started the Phoenix Keeper and it occurs to me that a zoo is a GREAT tool for world building. Have your characters walk around a microcosm of the wider world? Easy to organize in your head. V clever.

I don’t usually make this many updates, but I’m really loving this book. Omg I love Taesia.

So far love the world and the dynamic between all the characters. They feel like such real people.

I really want to like this book but I cannot stand the incomplete sentences! I don’t mind one here or there for dramatic effect, but these are CONSTANT. They break up the rhythm of the story and are really really distracting. I keep re-reading them thinking I’ve missed something, but I haven’t. Ergfff.

I’m still waiting for this book to surprise me.

It’s saved by the quality of the writing but so far:

Yes, I know racism is bad, twitter is toxic, history is written by the victors, and the court of public opinion is cruel. So? Tell me a story.

I wish @athenaliusghost was an actual ghost.

Or something would happen in this book.

This book reads a little, at this point, like a vanity fair exposé. I’m kind of waiting for the plot. I like the writing, but idk something about realistic fiction makes everything seem fake? I’ll figure out what I mean later. I hope there’s a big climax to this book and it’s not just a rumination on cultural appropriation and social media and stuff.

Canterbury Tales in space‽ Don’t mind if I do. I love a Foundation-esque satellite-eye-view epic expanse of a story that zooms in on people’s innermost experiences.

I will say that so far The Priest’s Tale was more engaging for me than The Soldier’s Tale, which is very tactical so far.

A tree ship‽ Yes Please. Also I bought this on a whim without seeing its original cover art and now that I see it I SWEAR I own this book. But I cannot find it. I swear I have seen it!

This book is so immersive, it’s like diving into a world. I feel like I’m literally leaving when I read it.

Idk why Goodreads thought I finished this. I haven’t. But I like it a lot so far. Delightfully macabre.

This chapter (Chapter 10) is making me literal LOL for how relatable it is. Man. If there’s anything a book dragon likes more than books and reading its books about books and reading.

Today sucked but this book is doing its bit to rescue me. I like it a lot!
