After an interesting beginning I have lost nearly all interest in this. I have not picked it up for a few days, so perhaps that's why. So far, nothing has drawn me in or swept me up.

I am savouring this, really, but I am also amazed that it was (and is!) a children's novel. It is so long! At over 600 pages it does feel akin to something like Lord of the Rings, but with rabbits instead of hobbits. I find it sad to consider that most children these days would be bored within minutes of this long tale, particularly with all of Adams's lavish nature descriptions.

Over the coming weeks I'm going to read a number of ancient Greek works, but rather than read randomly as I have before, I am going to try and read in 'order', or as close as I can manage it. I studied Homer for a year, so consider him 'finished' and then I moved to Sappho and Aeschylus... But Hesiod comes before both of them. Luckily, he doesn't take long. (Oh and Aesop should be thrown in too, if I'm backtracking.)

Already halfway through the year which means we are also halfway through the challenge and halfway through A Dance to the Music of Time. 5 more to go after this one.

I visited Thomas Hardy's Cottage yesterday in Dorset, so I am suitably inspired. I'm now farther west still, in the countryside quite far from the closest neighbours for a whole week of reading and walking.
