Did I miss something, or did we just gloss over half a year to where the hospital is now built? There didn’t seem to be much struggle between it getting approval and it being nearly done (when there was that violence)

Actually getting chills a couple times reading this. Reality changing out from under you plus a hint of stalker or poltergeist or something really seals the deal.

This book has its one ciphers and codes hidden in a few places. I’m tempted to get out a pen and make some notes in the margins.

When was the last time I felt so tense and dreadful from a novel, let alone by the 2nd chapter?

God this situation is so uncomfortable.

“When had she decided that desire was a weakness? Or at least, that letting people know that she desired something was?”

Who is right and who is wrong? What really happened all those centuries ago?

I appreciate the dual POVs in that the author makes good use of them to get us going with the story in the main city with Ali, only describing some bits here and there to keep us informed, but then giving us a proper introduction of what it looks like to an outsider (like us) once we’re further along and won’t get bogged down as much as if we’d gotten it all at the start.

Here we see the capital L Liberal plan to do nothing now — and actually make things worse now — with the hopeful plan that someday in the future they’ll be able to make some incremental changes to help the oppressed.

I actually take it back kinda because on the next page she actually checks herself and realizes his sincerity so it’s not this one big miscommunication, just her still having her emotions flared and gets cleared up shortly after, which is more than acceptable.

I feel like Nahri’s outrage at the guy for what he said last night is a little overdramatic, especially that she leaves out how badly she insulted him too.
