An excellent and well written historical account of the events leading up to the start of the Civil War.

This book is so well written, it almost reads like a novel. It rips off pretense of white-washed history to reveal the true history of systemic racism in this country. It should be required reading for all high school students.

This is a fascinating personal account of his upbringing, background, education and life. It is also a revealing glimpse into the collapse of the Soviet Union and the failure of democracy to take hold. Rampant corruption is endemic and was before and after the collapse. Its a sober reminder of what happens to folks who oppose a corrupt authoritarian regime.

I’m stalled in Chapter 1. It’s so dry.

Page 344 of 686 pages. Chilling in the original sense of the word. Horrifying in its dark descriptions of gangster murders.

This is well written. Published in 2014 well before our current political situation, it is chilling to read of the similarities between the immigration debate then and now.
