From the outset this book gave me the creeps. Events come thick and fast and most of my initial guesses as to what was going going on were totally off the mark, which is how it should be in a good thriller.

Oh dear! I was really looking forward to reading this and I know it has great reviews but I'm really struggling with it.

Enjoy wouldn't be the right word, it's too traumatic for that but I can't put it down!

Not my usual type of book but I quite enjoyed it. Non-stop action keeps you turning the pages, although it does require a suspension of belief at times!

This book was a complete contrast to the last book I read, A Spool of Blue Thread. It's not the type I would normally read but I have to admit I quite enjoyed it. Action packed from start to finish, Carl Logan would give Bond a run for his money. I did wonder at times if a spy, who seems at times to be completely reckless, could survive for so long but if you suspend belief then you won't be able to put it down.

Only the first chapter read but so far I'm not gripped

I've read the Languedoc trilogy and mostly enjoyed those, although Citadel was hard going at times, because the supernatural element took over a bit too much for me. Kate Mosse does an incredible amount of research for her books and they are very well written. This one is a complete change, a gothic crime novel, and I am absolutely hooked!

So according to Goodreads I have been reading this book for about 40 days. I can't remember a book ever taking me this long! Kill me now

Slow going!

Slow going! Very readable and interesting but long passages which don't really seem to contribute to the story.
