First novel of the year...and it's a banger. I devoured at least half of this in one evening and in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep.

Trying this one again in audiobook format since it's spooky season. One of my most hated tropes is "writer with no inspiration goes through some shit" so this isn't off to a good start lol

All the blurbs about this book say it gets fuckin' weird. I know everyone's definition of weird is different, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. What it DOES nail (so far) is the itch for fitting in, wanting to do something ~more~ with your life, and generally feeling unsatisfied. (YOLO, I guess?) I also connect with the writing quite a bit. It's engaging and unpretentious. That's hard to find these days.

My opinion of a book as I’m reading it has never shifted so much as it has with this book. Go back need this one to end soon because my emotions cannot handle it.

If it weren't for the premise, I would have quit this book within the first 10 pages. I'm not a fan of what I would call a "casual" writing style. Usually, I enjoy stream-of-consciousness writing, but in this case, I feel as though I'm not connecting with it. I don't really care about the main character even though he's gone through something terrible. I guess we'll see where it goes.

Unfortunately, I have to DNF this. I loved Auerbach’s first book. Bad Man suffers from under editing, in my opinion.

What I appreciate so much about Broder's writing is that she's to the point. There seems to be this trend of ~beautiful, lyrical~ writing that, for me, does a disservice to the topic at hand, especially regarding mental health. Broder's depiction of disordered eating, depression, etc. is so blunt and real. You're able to feel her characters and experience their experiences. Bottom line: Melissa Broder fucking rules.

It’s so incredible how funny and sad this book can be simultaneously.

So far, this is an excellent one to end the year with, despite the terrible things that have happened so far. I hope more Sayaka Murata books are translated in the future. I love her writing so much.

So far all I can tell is that is a fictionalized, loosely based on story of Fleetwood Mac’s history. The audiobook is pretty cool, though.

A heavy-handed (in a very good way) satire that roasts corporate/faux feminism? Absolutely sign me up. This book has made me cackle more times than I can count, and fuck, the world sucks right now, so frankly I deserve a good laugh and so do you!!
