Currently listening to Yuval romanticize the success of European imperialism as a love affair between European powers and "modern" science, and that makes me wonder- why does this seem like a outcome of our education that has colonial hangover? And do we have absolutely no archeological evidence of science from the rest of the world that these imperialists colonized around the 1600s ?

The choice of gendering the computer software Ava as a woman with a male protagonist is too predictable and annoying for someone like Ghosh. Also, what's it with associating a gender to asking a lot of questions?

So far into the book, it feels like all that expected of a prospective professor is to be a friction-less cog in the department's wheel. Conform, conform, conform. That's the expectation.

Candid recollection of the journey to the discovery of the double helical structure. Worth a read, but shouldn't be taken too seriously.
