I really like how Christopher Lehman provides ideas for scaffolding instruction for each research strategy based on whether the students are emergent researchers or more experienced researchers.

Wow! This may be the best book I've ever read on the teaching of fiction and strategies to encourage students to notice & note in order to think more deeply about their reading.

"Notice that we've never referred to the signpost lessons as minilessons. They aren't. In fact, we think that this is one of the most overused terms in education. Not everything should be taught in seven to twelve minutes. Reviews should be minilessons. Introducing new concepts, well, that requires time. You'll need about thirty to forty minutes for the model lessons we've provided."

I'm already rethinking what close reading really is and how I can better lead students toward close reading. I really like how the authors begin this book pondering 10 key questions regarding the reading and teaching of fiction today.
