Read this over 25 years ago and now once again. Just as inspirational.

2 storylines that I assume will converge but first there's a lot of traveling and a lot of wondering going on broken up sporadically with a bit of action.

Good mountain man adventure as usual but scene breaks would go a long way to help clarify what part of the story we're in.

Can I be the dissenting voice here? The verbiage of the opening chapter is quite suspect, it's very similar to AI generated prose. I'll provide examples in my review.

Struggled to get into this one. 2 different POVs. Didn't care for the writing style of the one plot thread. I guess this is horror? Not clicking for me.

I've read this trilogy at least twice but am listening to the audio this time around. Lewis is great. The verbiage is a bit dated but just enter the era and accept the novel for what it is.

We're listening to the audio on our road trip. Really enjoy these kinds of historical fiction thrillers. Clean (but a bit violent at times) and well told. Narration is great.

Okay, read the published version and thought it was great. I'll read the submitted draft version soon and compare the two. Also found a King Kull comic titled, "By this Axe I Rule," which is the original short story that the first Conan adventure is based on. The comic book version is basically the same as The Phoenix on the Sword...until the final cliffhanger that keeps the story going into the next issue! ha

This collection contains 5 short stories and a novella. Reading the novella now. Enjoyed the first 3 tales better. The longer work has a lot of narrative description that slows down the adventure imo. Good writing overall tho and fun main character.

Lyndon is on page 85 of 170 of Apocalypse Girl
A creator-owned collection of 6 comics/issues forming a hefty graphic novel that's gritty and violent (as post-apocalypse stories generally are) and overall pretty well done. The narrative is a bit repetitive so could be tighter but the artwork is cool - the whole thing done by Les Garner.

The author's first book, I think, and it shows. Just powering through and skimming to get the barely interesting plot over with.

Volume 2 has a bit more variety of stories than Volume 1, but not by much. Still lurid in its details and over the top in 40s gangster lingo. You tracking what I'm saying, Bub?

Two issues make up this series, I downloaded 2 PDFs and just finished the first comic. About 68 pages consisting of 8 mob/crime stories from the 30s and 40s. Supposedly based on true events but I doubt it. Only 2 plots - the racketeering shtick and the prison breakout trope. All kinda blah with muddy and crowded black and white illustrations. I'll give the first issue 2.5 stars.

Finished the first 2 stories in this collection. Very swashbuckling! Engaging, if a bit flourishing, prose that fits the era (an alt medieval Italy, I think?) and the first person swordplay braggadocia of our hero.
