Starting the second half of the epistle. The author's commentary on the original meaning has some good insights but the bridging sections and cultural and contemporary applications are a bit repetitive and time-bound to the 90s when this series came out.

This is one of the earliest books on spiritual disciplines from the protestant perspective. Some solid helps here but also a lot of tautologies.

Kinda skimming since it's a lot of chase and action punctuated by long slogs of backstory. I mean I'm enjoying the ride but the problem with skimming is that I just now noticed that O'Brien is the bad guy while O'Reilly is the good one. Boy was I confused there for awhile lol. Authors should be more careful in naming their characters! Haha 😂

Repetitive incidents of odd happenings. No rising tension just bits of tension and no hint at the reveal yet. In other words, not sure where this is going so it's more of a slog at this point than an adventure to find out more.

Intriguing setup but now a third of the way through and not much is happening or being revealed. Skimmed a few reviews and a lot of the 1 and 2 star comments say that's the way it is with the whole novel. I hope not!

Murder mystery where everyone is suspect.

Reading this since we are preaching through this epistle to the Ephesians at our church.

Vic Gordon is my mentor and former pastor. This basic theology has depth and weight - so it's not 'basic' as in elementary. It's quite readable and raises excellent perspectives - all the while pointing to our magnificent God.

Not for the faint of heart. Heavy on the philosophical angles that underly Willard's work (chapter 1) but then the author provides more interesting insight into the practical application of Willard's theology.

Cast of characters are getting their time on the page and I can start to see the underlying sociopathologies emerging - but no real suspense or psychological drama quite yet. Still, good writing and I trust the author to tie the threads together as the novel progresses.

Some good quotes and interesting premise but a lot of straw man arguments.

This book is by my niece and I read all of her books LOL.
