This middle section is boring. Good opening but now very little action.

Reading my first Bond novel.

kinda interesting but taking a long time to get to the rebellion forces, a lot of deciding back and forth and spooling out the secrets of the characters involved.

Mystery thriller short story that is delivering so far!

Ky's storyline is more interesting than Cassia's.

For whatever reason I'm having trouble getting started with this one. I'll try again, probably from the beginning, now that I have my bearings.

Slow. Very little tension overall. First person 17yo female protag, obvs. Lots of interiority but not overly angsty. Writing is competent, sometimes engaging. As noted by others, The Giver was a lot more engaging and without the silly love triangle. Powering through!

Hardly any plot and yet I'm following along as if I'm on the trail beside them!

Solid exegetical and pastoral commentary on the series of prophetic messages in the book of Malachi.

Third of the way in and there's still no plot. I mean, it's an immersive mountain man adventure but no real conflict - just life in the 1820s on the Utah frontier. Probably the last of this series I'll read. Basically each novel is the same. Entertaining but repetitive.

Read this over 25 years ago and now once again. Just as inspirational.

2 storylines that I assume will converge but first there's a lot of traveling and a lot of wondering going on broken up sporadically with a bit of action.

Good mountain man adventure as usual but scene breaks would go a long way to help clarify what part of the story we're in.

Can I be the dissenting voice here? The verbiage of the opening chapter is quite suspect, it's very similar to AI generated prose. I'll provide examples in my review.

Struggled to get into this one. 2 different POVs. Didn't care for the writing style of the one plot thread. I guess this is horror? Not clicking for me.

I've read this trilogy at least twice but am listening to the audio this time around. Lewis is great. The verbiage is a bit dated but just enter the era and accept the novel for what it is.

We're listening to the audio on our road trip. Really enjoy these kinds of historical fiction thrillers. Clean (but a bit violent at times) and well told. Narration is great.
