I approached the book not as someone looking for easy reassurance, but as someone deeply skeptical who nevertheless understands the danger of surrendering completely to despair. I wanted not an “answer,” but a perspective on hope that could withstand the realities of modern life. so far, I'm not getting any of that, because I think all the activism efforts are not enough in the face of economic incentives

It's all so fascinating but I've been a bit overwhelmed by how much information lays ahead so I need to find a way to make it a habit to consult when I have time before preparing a meal, because that seems like a more reliable way of making long lasting association and memorizing techniques.

Catchy, like reading about that OP anime protagonist that has to hide their skills for dumb reasons like morals and reputation. :))

Light airport read

Slowly hypnotizing, carnival of horrors atmosphere. Never liked westerns so for now I'm pushing through for the existential dread on a cloudy dead day.

Very dense, so it requires focus; "could this be important later on by this name and this name only, or is something constructed just to provide context?".

"The regular early morning yell of horror, was the sound of Arthur Dent suddenly waking up and remembering where he was"
I can see why this would be an instant classic. People today (me), still do it, only we keep it on the inside (thin walls).

One way to put this into words would be that while there is an interesting magical system in place, the characters are just not 'juicy' enough for me to want to know immediately what happens to them next.
I still want to finish this series, and when I take it up it is fluid enough in its writing that I can make considerable progress.

Very dense, so I'd rather read it when I can research all the alternate questions and tangents it sends me through.

Inciting event + one week of travel misadventures takes about 400 pages. I can see how this is one of the longest book series people ever read.

More interesting than the show.

Finally, I got to it.

This is just the thing to get into to ease the suffering of an intense feeling of "I told you so, every way I could manage, and yet we're here dealing with this shitshow" :)).

Between short bursts of satisfactory clashes, there's always a greater evil lurking, unfolding as a result of choices taken when you're hunted and herded from trap to trap.
I will finish reading this book, and will come back to it because of how well it is crafted -how you can sense the doom, (and now you've commitment to it, you're going to see it through), but I also need frequent breaks from it because of it.
