This book makes me feel like I’m learning things I should not know about my close personal friend Belle Burden whom I’ve never met

I’m not really sure of the major message of this book yet, just seems like a lot of lying and sadness and doomed relationships.

Already seeing that the author is building character depth. May or may not have seen a spoiler when I was looking up where the main character was from but still we chug along!

Slowly marching on… but I’m really enjoying Steinbeck’s prose! I missed long sentences lol!

I really dislike how women are portrayed in this book but I also know it was written in 1952. Ugh. But interesting!

So many beautiful lines of writing. People don’t write like this anymore!!

So many Christian themes! And a tad bit of mystery. I’m intrigued!
