This sounds like lesbian Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and I'm here for it

The premise of this book is so good, what's bothering me is the continuous reminding of the characters sexualities and/or gender. While I appreciate the representation, I would love to know more about the characters as individuals, their personalities, their flaws etc...
Personally, I would never want to be defined ONLY by my sexuality, gender identity or pronouns. They are a part of me, but I'm much more than that.

This is what happens when the expression "calling down all the saints from the calendar" (a figurative expression in Italian referred to swearing) is taken too literally

Adoro come la protagonista abbia i "paraocchi" riguardo alla società in cui vive, essendo lei stessa un prodotto della sua società. Questo la rende realistica e insopportabile al punto giusto, nella sua imperfezione. Sciona si ostina a credere che la storia del proprio paese non menta, e che nulla potrà scalfire queste certezze... fino a quando qualcosa (o meglio, qualcuno) non inizia a farle crollare lentamente.
