attempt number 4 of me trying to finish a little life before a semester of school

it’s weird because i can see evidence of him having some kind of a heart. he’s really starting to care for lucy gray, and you can see it in the scenes where they’re alone… but whenever he’s talking to literally anyone else, his thoughts change like he’s putting on a mean-spirited facade to either make himself look better or keep himself delulu in a way. he probably isn’t used to the feeling of caring.

an absurdist dystopia examining the feminine condition when removed from direct content with men, and an exploration on the foundational cores of humanity

interestingly, the mc is a 48 year old woman who reads like a girl in her early 20s that doesn’t know how to properly function in society yet. like, this woman has a whole KID, and yet she’s still trying to subsist over instant ramen and soy sauce because she doesn’t wanna leave the house out of spite and being a loner …? i mean ok. sure. valid… i guess

ok update no. 2 in the span of 3 minutes but i LOVE unreliable narrators. it’s the reason i stan catcher in the rye so much.

they’re giga fucked in the head and i eat it all up for breakfast.

i like the story because it bites and i needed to read something edgy. her writing is immaculate per usual.

yet, i can’t help but feel that r.f. kuang is trying to just make a long, cynical commentary on how she thinks people (in this case, june the white woman) view her as a successful asian writer in the industry. it comes across SUPER clearly. i can’t tell if it’s good or bad.

already hooked — reading this makes me feel a certain way and i don’t want it to stop
