I'm mixed about this book so far, but "ambition and envy make hate-filled beasts of men" is a great line.

Best single quote I've read in a while:
"She felt profoundly annoyed at being berated for withholding questions, then being mocked when she didn't."

I can't continue this any further. The author's writing style does not work for me.

This reads like an animated movie. I can absolutely see this book adapted by the likes of LAIKA or Aardman Animations.

The rare brief hypotheticals from characters make these early chapters oddly suspenseful. "Would it have made a difference[?]" Potent stuff.

I'm barely into the book and have already found one of my favorite quotes in all of literature, and it drips with magnificent sarcasm:
"God forbid. It's not as though the Egyptians were the inheritors of a great civilization whose mighty monuments still littered the land. Oh, no. They were peasants, superstitious fools who ate too many beans."

This book feels like every detective mystery cliché. I fully expect the irascible Akhetaten police chief to declare the protagonist a "loose cannon" and demand his gun and badge.

If somebody told me that this novel began life as a gender-swap AU Witcher fanfic, I would not call them a liar.

For a book ostensibly aimed at children, there's a surprisingly high amount of death and violence.

This book is much less oppressive and dour than its predecessor, which is a huge improvement.

This book, so far, is a long string of boring board room meetings.

Oh dear, I was expecting just comparative literature, yet I'm mostly seeing Freudian psychoanalysis.
