So far, my favorite quote from this book is - "Through the years, I've learned tha the most successful writers I've worked with are those who've learned to think about their process and who've learned to reflect upon their work."

The prose sections are stories her mother told her. They seem to foreshadow at times or are there to include her mother. I haven't decided if the prose 'breaks' are really needed because they pause forwarding the plot and take me out of the pace and moment.

I just started this book. Already I am drawn in to the the and place of Marian's childhood. the drawings and photos make you want to pause and imagine life back then. Next chapter. . . The Whipping.

I am loving this story so rich in details and emotion. I also love listening to the author read it!

Just started reading this - for a study group - we're using it to study CRENSHAW by Katherine Applegate

I'm reading this novel in a study group. We're studying it for the beats plot etc using SAVE THE CAT as a guide.

Great examples and guidance so far! I'm using this writers' craft book to work on revising the beginning of my middle grade novel.

This is a page turner -- Susan Campbell Bartlett created this thought-provoking, page turning read -- from a an -episode- in her book HITLER YOUTH. Following Helmut in his present conditions, and during the flashback of how he ended up in jail, you get a sense of Germany at that time and how someone like Hitler was able to take over the hearts & minds of his countrymen.

I like the switching POV, it's easy to follow, even while listening to the audiobook. Switching sometimes gives 2 perspectives of the same events in this novel.

Great writing! Great story [ most people know that already] I don't know why I haven't read this sooner. I LOVE listening to the audiobook Jim Dale is amazing!

It's very literary. Some of the language & metaphors are wonderful. It moves at a slow pace and the alternating points of view are interesting. I thought there'd be more of a plot, and a little more action. I keep rooting for Marie-Laure.

Now I'm at the part where the mother and children are on their way to Flint Michigan. It's rough going for them. I love Deza Malone's voice, attitude as well as her love of writing and belief in herself!
