Mark 5:18-20
The place that Christians wish to be is not always the place which is best for their souls. The position that they would choose, if they could have their own way, is not always that which Jesus would have them occupy.

John 13

The crucifixion brought glory to the FATHER. It glorified His wisdom, faithfulness, holiness, and love.

Wisdom- to prepare a way that he can be just yet justify sinners
Faithfulness -to keep his promise to Adam & Eve
Holiness- to require the law's commands to be satisfied
Love- to provide Jesus as our perfect mediator

That our love may be drawn forth to God, we must know these three things:
1. A fulness(Col 1:19). He has a fullness of grace to cleanse us, and of glory to crown us; a fulness not only of sufficiency, but of redundancy.
2. A freeness (Rev 22:17). God has an innate propensity to dispense mercy and grace; he drops as the honeycomb.
3. A propriety, or property. We must know that this fullness in God is ours (Ps 48:14)

How temptation is overruled for good to the children of God:
1. It sends the soul to prayer.
2. It keeps from the perpetration of sin.
3. It abates the swelling of pride.
4. It tries what is in the heart.
5. God makes those who are tempted able to comfort others in the same distress.
6. It stirs up God's paternal compassion.
7. It makes the saints long more for heaven.
8. It engages the strength of Christ.

"A quiet steadfast holding of the human will to the will of God and a peaceful resting in His love and care is of infinitely greater value in the religious life than the most intense emotions or the most wonderful experiences that have ever been known by the greatest mystic of them all."

Covetousness involves suspicion about the goodness and love of God, and even His justice. He has not given me what He gave somebody else. He doesn't notice my need. He doesn't love me as much as He loves him. He isn't fair.

Faith looks up with open hands. "You are giving me this, Lord? Thank you. It is good and acceptable and perfect."
