I'm not enjoying the book so far. Nick's writing is good, clever, intelligent, but the cruelty and suffering are not what I like to dive into. This might appeal to readers who liked the Saw movies or the Survivor show, escape rooms, Real Housewives. I don't like those at all, but I did love Nick's 3 AM series and Thomas Prescott books, so I wanted to give it a try.

This 3rd part is a smart continuation of the story, well developed and detailed. Overall it's an intelligent and serious fantasy drama for young adults. I like the array of characters and the narration is very well done. However, the feeling of this book is a bit morose for me so I'm listening to it sped up, but am interested enough to keep going.

I don't like this book at all. I've managed to listen to 40% of it and was done. It focuses on the petty ugliness in people, the selfish motives that lead towards hurting others. Marriages that should have ended, but still limp sling on falsehoods, addictions over family, words used as weapons, manipulation to have an affair, lying to friends.There's already so much of that in daily life.
