Jan is starting The Gnomobile
Re-read. I discovered this over 60 years ago at the Book Mobile in Davenport, Iowa. The Book Mobile came to the elementary school across the street from where we lived. Books weren't checked out with cards and inked stamps. The driver of the Book Mobile had a large tape recorder and when you were ready to go, he would use your card to read your books into the tape recorder. He called it the "Ga-Nome Mobile." :-)

I was won over by Lucy the 13 year old with this quote: "My brother calls me high and mighty for using ten-dollar words in a ten-cent town. Out loud, I call him rude, but inside my head, I know he's a chuff. Mama says I can be insensitive. She says language is meant to communicate, not separate, so I mostly spend ten-dollar words inside my head." and she's reading a Nancy Drew Book - The Hidden Staircase.

I lost valuable reading time. We were without A/C for a week. In spite of having 4 ceiling fans and 4 floor fans, it was reaching temperatures of 89 and 90 deg. F in the house. Impossible to concentrate. It's fixed now!

This is going to take a while! Over 1400 pages. I bought it on purpose because books are expensive and since I zoom through them so quickly, I wanted something that was going to last longer. It got good reviews, so I decided to give it a try.

Reread. I'm not reading the Kindle edition. I am reading my 56 year old copy for perhaps the 4th time. I first read the book in 1965 after purchasing it at school at the Scholastic Book Fair. I always looked forward to those sales. I reread the book in 1966. I have a memory of reading it a third time, but did not note the date in the book as I had done the first two times. The book was first published in 1928.

Just a note...this is not the edition I have. Mine has an orange, green, white and black cover and this isbn number. It's an old book from the "stock pile."

Not loving this book. I'm starting to doubt my skills in choosing books!

I am so excited to move The Moonshiner's Daughter by Donna Everhart from my Want To Read list to my Currently Reading list. It arrived today and I felt like an old friend had come to visit. My birthday present to myself, I look forward to meeting Donna's latest determined young woman.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book (June 25 release date) from Kensington Publishing Corp. I look forward to this book as Kensington publishes one of my favorites, Donna Everhart and her 3 books. #TheLongFlightHome

Fascinating. After 50+ years of reading books by and about Ernest Hemingway, I've already learned lots of new things.

So detailed, it's taking time. I am enjoying it, but it's not such an easy read and it weighs 3.5 lbs.
