An NPC jumps from a 6th floor and breaks their neck... and while she bleeds on the floor she has a casual conversation with the main char's mother, where they introduce each other and chat about theater. Then dies. WTF. How is this a bestseller?

Not enjoying the read so far. Lots of name dropping (Donkey Kong, Tetris, Mario, Kotaku, bla bla) feels like a weak attempt to keep the reader engaged with familiar references. Also I don't understand with the obsession of mentioning one of the characters is Jewish. One time is enough, we get it! Do you also want to tell us if he's uncut or not? Geez...

I'm halfway there and it's getting worse. More and more BS and nonsense. I started writing notes on the borders of the book saying "BS" or "WTF".

Mixed feelings. It's very hit and miss. Whenever I judge a philosophy I ask "what if everyone followed this since ever?" and in this case I think we would still be in caves. The mindset of accept everything, don't struggle, don't grow, don't have goals, stay as you are... this would kill progress. No tech, medicine, food, comfort, entertainment would have been created thinking like this.

"I have a great husband, an awesome house. Dare I say it... but can my life get any better?" said the girl that witnessed an abusive father all her life, now married to an abusive man. But he's hot and sorry, so that's fine, right?

This book is making me feel several emotions, all of them bad.

Oh great, another female author writing a female character that forgives and rewards being abused... just what this story needed

Please, please, not another Twilight, not another "average girls instantly falls for the perfect muscular smart rich guy with pretty face and big muscles" :(

Reading this book is mostly painful. The author spends the 1st chapter describing the problems of women, saying they read 5 times what they wrote before hitting send, don't share their opinion to avoid offending someone... as I'm reading that I ask myself, "Am I a woman then? 'cause all that applies to me"

The book does have some fair points, but mostly feels one-sided and biased. Unsure what the author proposes.

I'll stop reading it. It's slow and confusing. In a single page, the book references all these names without any kind of explanation: Squaller, Adrik, Hiram Schenck, Kerch, Noiniki, Gilded Bog, Zeroes, First Army, Ravka, Fjerdans -- I'm sorry, what?!

So I returned to Goodreads, found a review saying that it's highly recommended that you read the "Shadow and Bone" trilogy first. I wish someone told me that sooner...
