A lot of laugh-out-loud passages. Read a few to my mom, & we were both choking with laughter. Recognizable growing-up memories, esp. for any who grew up around the same time as Fey, who’s younger than I, but given how much things have changed in the last 30 years, I've experienced a lot of nostalgia. It’s not all laughs, & even when it is funny, it's funny because of the truth behind the humor.

I'm adoring the writing and savoring the sentences. I love the way she enters the story three times, and the first two times obliquely, first through a dream and then through a retrospective, until finally we begin to see how the story "really" began.

approx page -- good book, but not what I'm really in the mood to be reading right now. I think I'm more in fantasy mode.

Read "Curse of the Pharaohs," the second book in the collection, yesterday. Another fun romp with Peabody and Emerson. I loved the contrast between domestic life in rainy, wet England and life on the dig in the desert. Ramses was introduced briefly here, too. He's a stitch. (My mother said he reminded her of me. I don't see it. ;P)

I haven't read this in about 30 years, so I'm overdue rereading it.

Listening to this audio book reminds me very strongly of one of the primary reasons I don't like "reading" an audio book: it takes too bloody long! I think this is around 21 hours long, and I could have read it in less than a third that time, maybe a quarter, and I also miss being able to skim redundant or (sadly, since I'm a huge de Lint fan) pedantic passages. I don't want to miss them by skipping them, though.

I'm rereading the first four Peabody mysteries over the next few weeks. Just finished "Crocodile on the Sandbank" and enjoyed it very much -- it's been years since I read it. It was fun to see where Amelia Peabody and Emerson began.

I took a long break from this book to read a bunch of novels, but I'll be back into it again soon.

I'm enjoying reading this, though I've been reading other things in between. It's a long book -- 11796 locations, with endnotes, or 458 pages. The content and research is quite good, but the writing could have been a bit more polished -- not terrible, but just awkward at times. Still, if you're interested in Victorian London or Jack the Ripper, or both, it's a good one to pick up, IMO.

Almost finished with the reread, and it's better than I remembered it being. Enjoying it a lot.

I'm enjoying rereading The Dark is Rising series. Unfortunately, I'll have to stop with this one for a while until I can pick up The Grey King. The language and writing in Cooper's books is beautiful, and much more pleasing than the Harry Potter books -- even though I loved them, no mistake about that. Perhaps the HP books have more subplots, more characters, and a more detailed fictional world, but DR is beautiful
