The way they mention the smell of a carnation and its fragile petals make me wonder what carnations the author is referring to. Most carnations in my memory have no notable scent and the flowers are a relatively tight clump of petals. It’s a little jarring.

Couldn’t sleep, so I read. Pretty smooth reading as long as I don’t get deep into the story

So far I don’t totally follow the story, and that’s okay. I’ve read books like that before. I did see the author’s notes about inspiration, so that helps. Only one real hang up so far: there’s a bath scene. He has “jars” set along the bath. Then? He squeezes liquid into his hand? Jar? Squeeze? Y’all… who missed that? Popped me right out of the story for a minute.

It’s moving a but faster, but this style of writing is definitely not my favorite

I mistaken looked at some reviews that said things moved too fast. It’s true. The weeks/days feel accelerated in an unreal way. I don’t think I would have noticed without the review so I hate that for myself, but I am enjoying the obvious tropes anyway.
