One of my favourite historical fiction authors, must admit I missed this being published but interested to read.

This Russian section is a bit of a slog!

This book is slightly ridiculous, people rushing around into fires. 🤦‍♀️

Book 2 in the 1950s omnibus!

Read so many mixed reviews on this one. Initial thoughts are it's a bit meh in terms of characters but easy to read over the bank holiday.

It's November 2023 book of the month.

At this point I wish the book was about anyone else other than the main character. Every other single character has a more interesting life. Oh I'm so far through I might as well finish but I resent it a little.

Oh poor, simple Amy. You really have no clue what's going on.

I said I wouldn't read it but I am ill and bored. My predictions before I start. He's alive but terminally ill. The crazy sisters will continue to act crazy and entitled. The present time dialogue will be absolutely cringe. I will sigh in exasperation about 1278 times.

I'm not finishing this. I just haven't got it in me to pretend that SLTs enforce spoken language. aRe limited references don't reflect my experiences at all. Maybe it changes later in the novel but it feels poorly researched/understood by the author. I'm really sorry and I know It isn't the main concern of the book but it is just making me feel angry and I can't put it aside to continue reading.

Woah! Erm, I'm sorry Ayisha Malik but no one in the world of speech and language therapy is ever going to say that! I can suspend my disbelief for many things but not about the wonders of non-verbal communication. I'll give you another 100 pages.

I have never read a book where every other line is a description of how something smells. It's making me laugh so much I have to stop reading.

Got to say this is one traumatic book. Kind of like 400 pages of the scene(s) in Twilight Saga when Bella lies down in the dirt. Except there are three Bella's.

I'm finding this such a slog and yet so much is going on. Perhaps I'm not in the right mood for this one.

I just want to know what happens ok? I know my reviews of the last few books have been awful but I just want to know.

This has taken a twist and I’m not sure what I think yet. It’s all a bit handmaid’s tale and the culture clash is a bit much. Also less of the weight / appearance moaning please!

Heard about this via an interview with the author on radio 4. Sounded fascinating so thought I'd give it ago!

Wanted to read this for ages and managed to find a copy in a charity shop a few weeks ago.

Lots of building, lots of fighting.

There's a lot of building going on. Plus a horrible villain whose perspective I find is making me feel quite uncomfortable.
